Before baby arrives

You and your partner will receive a personalised antenatal session to address your individual needs, questions and concerns.

We will build your confidence in feeding your baby, before baby arrives.

Once baby arrives, you need a reliable support network and a clear understanding of how babies feed and the practical skills to help you breastfeed.

After this session, you will be able to:

  • Recognise normal newborn behaviour
  • Take early steps to get breastfeeding off to a great start
  • Understand how your baby can attach and feed comfortably
  • Recognise when your baby is feeding well
  • Involve your partner to help you breastfeed
  • Know how to avoid and overcome challenges

You will also receive reference material to use for when baby arrives.

Making contact with your lactation consultant is ideal around 30 weeks. However, it is never too late to involve a lactation consultant.

An early consultation with your lactation consultant helps connect you with the simple knowledge that babies know how to breastfeed, how you will recognise their behaviour and how to respond.
